Keep Pickens Beautiful holds annual dinner.....
Keep Pickens Beautiful held their annual dinner January 14,
2010 at the Crust. The dinner is a
yearly event which provides an opportunity to socialize with some of their
members, present awards, welcome new board members and officers for 2010. Mary
Ann Manzel, president, passed the gavel to Kevin Osborne, the incoming president for 2010.

Ms. Manzel served as president of KPB for the past 3 years and
is also chair of the beautification
committee. Mary Ann will assume the
position of Executive Director Ex officio and remain on as chair of
beautification. Vice President for 2010 is Beth
Coberly; Secretary-Treasurer is Shirley
Soulia, new board member Vered
Kleinburger. Susan Wright was honored with a plaque for serving on the KPB for 3
years and heading up commutations.

Norma Wilson retired from the board after serving several years as
Secretary- Treasurer and Chairman of our Litter Index. Stan Barnett was recognized for serving as Executive Director in
2009. Ron Jager, Adopt A Road Chairman, presented the Pickens County
Sheriff Department with the Elaine
Thomason Award for re-instating the inmate work detail. Sheriff
Donnie Craig and Corporal Billy
Lingerfelt (in charge of work detail) accepted the award. Their department
picked up 2200 bags of litter, and 139 tires along 200 miles of County
roadways.

KPB has over 50 families and businesses who have volunteered
to pickup litter; they removed 516 bags from 57 miles. 6 new families and organizations volunteered
to join our program in 2009. Our local business owners have reported recycling
1047 bags of plastic and aluminum cans.
Our schools and businesses also recycle paper and cardboard. Other guests present were Mayor John Weaver, Jasper, Mayor Peter Cagle, Talking Rock, Angela Reinhardt from the Pickens Progress, Bill Wilson, Big Canoe Waste Management Chairman.
KPB is looking forward to another successful year improving
our community with the help of our volunteers, businesses, schools and local
governments joining in our efforts to keep our community clean and beautiful.
